Respite Center

A safe place for children to stay and play while parents and caregivers get a break.

Respite means “a time away or a break from a situation.”  Our Respite Center is an extension of our Behavioral Respite program.  The difference is that rather than the respite occurring in a home or in the community, the respite occurs at our facility. While at the Center, children participate in arts and crafts, receive help with homework, enjoy the reading corner, imagination and sensory play, watch movies, and eat healthy snacks.

Our Respite Center model allows for planned respite in addition to emergencies during a family crisis or in child welfare situations.  Families can use the Respite Center for a variety of reasons including:

  • To get a scheduled break from parenting, especially in times of high stress or feeling overwhelmed

  • To have a safe place to take their children when a caregiver has an emergency

  • To attend important appointments or meetings

New Families

Before we can care for your children, new families must complete an intake at the Respite Center. During an intake appointment, we will gather important information about your child, their strengths and needs, medical information, and emergency contact information for your family.  The intake appointment also allows us to obtain consent for services and as well learn important details about your child and your family.

EMERGENCY & CRISIS

We always try to leave space to accommodate families and CYFD in crisis.

SCHEDULING CARE

Because we provide care in planned ways and to help in crisis, our ability to provide care depends on available space.  If we cannot meet your immediate need, we will work with you to find another date and time to provide care and offer a break.

HOURS OF OPERATION

We serve anywhere from 1-8 youth from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.  Eligible children can receive up to 720 hours of behavioral respite per year.
